Zotac GTX 980 AMP! Extreme Review
Testing – Overclocking
Using the 3D+ preset the ZOTAC GTX 980 AMP! Extreme Edition was able to achieve an extra 400 points without breaking a sweat.
During this further testing you can see the core went all the way up to 1487 MHz and the memory peaked at 1818 MHz which is a respectable boost. The temperatures that the ZOTAC GTX 980 AMP! Extreme hit throughout these tests was a very low 61 degrees; during a more thorough burn in test using various rendering applications the temperature only spiked a bit more to 65 degrees.
Unfortunately I couldn’t get anymore of an overclock than the pre-sets out of the card which was a little annoying, every test I ran for stability after changing settings in FireStorm caused instability and a failure to complete test runs. This is no bad thing overall as the card itself comes with a huge overclock out of the box when compared to the standard GTX 980 card, and the presets cover most of the further options.
Throughout all of this testing the ZOTAC GTX 980 AMP! Extreme noise wise barely got above a slight whirr which was especially great as it was sat mainly at arms length away from me. The lights were more noticeable, sure, but they can be turned off, to avoid any annoyance.
