Insomnia 55 was a blast!
More Vendor Stands
Ducky were present and selling lots of stuff this year, and many thanks to them I managed to grab a T-Shirt that actually fits and a very special Ducky Charm with the special i55 keycap.
They were showcasing several new products. The Shine 5, the Secret mouse and the Zero replacement the Ducky One being the primary showcase items and the first two of which feature hardware RGB lighting. The Secret mouse I believe is one of the first mice to be made from sturdier PBT plastics which gives it a natural roughness that is to me (even with my short period of handling at iSeries) better than the rubberised texture commonly found elsewhere.
The Shine5 and the One, are the first to feature a new keycap manufacturing process. Double Layer ABS is aimed at improving the feel and quality of the standard keycaps. Rather than being a simple paint finish which can chip and wear away over time, two layers of ABS make up the key cap construction.
The Ducky Flipper is the large mouse mat you can see underneath the keyboards. It feels quite nice, but it could do with stitched edges to avoid fraying over time.
It was possible to play with the lighting modes on the Shine 5, though I wonder with the complexity and number of options it might be time for Ducky to offer a software control option to make it easier to use the per key RGB lighting and creation of user backlighting modes like Corsair. Time will tell if this will happen, but it is exciting times as they release many new products.
