Insomnia 71 – Still has that great feeling

Insomnia is an event that is dear to my heart. I’ve attended it for a number of years now and each time it continues to offer a new and exciting experience.

Insomnia 71 was no different and despite a change in event dates still managed to pack a lot into the event space to cover a lot of options for attendees.

The stages around the NEC were again host to a plethora of stage shows including game shows, panels and a live DnD session. The panels were very interesting and the live DnD was fun to watch as thing unfolded.

One of the main draws for me is the cosplay events that are handled by the amazing Costume and Play team. With cosplayers from all over the UK heading on down to enter and showcase their creations for the chance to win the £1000 cash prize for coming first in the Championship masquerade.

Recordings of both the Community and the Championship masquerade are available on my youtube channel which you can get from the above playlist.

I’ve managed to diversify my photography in the last few events i’ve attended and I was able to use the LAN and gaming stage to pull off a few shots that I am really proud of. Photo’s I took of the event are available on my Facebook page which can be reached at https://whois.yorkie.moe

This one is one my favourite shots.

Of course if panels and shows were not your thing, dotted around the event were stands showcasing the latest tech and games.

The marketplace area was stacked again, with a lot of sellers. Although I did notice a lack of variation in stuff being sold and as always event premium pricing was a real thing. Though the people selling the heat patches were quite annoying again this year.

The LAN hall was noticeably less busy this year, likely down to the change from being over the August bank holiday to September.

Insomnia 72 is taking place over the Easter weekend like previous events and the events Cosplay team has scored a massive win for Insomnia as a whole as it will be playing host to the UK qualifiers for the ECG !

I hope I’m able to attend again and if I am, I will be trying to attend the full weekend to cover all three cosplay events.

Get your tickets direct from Insomnia over at https://www.insomniagamingfestival.com/ I hope to see you there.
