Ducky Secret Gaming Mouse Review
The Packaging
The box the Ducky Secret arrives in makes a clear statement about the lighting abilities. With a streak of light in an S shape on the front.
The rear goes into the essentials under the hood including the types of switches and sensor in use. They also highlight the PBT body and the RGB lighting features further.
One thing I like to see with a mouse box is a flap/door on the front which allows you to get a quick grasp of the mouse inside. It helps to give a rough idea of the mouse itself and whether it fits your palm without the need to open the box. The Ducky Secret box lacks this which is a shame.
The rest of the packaging is pretty plain. Going inside the box, the contents are fairly spartan.
There is a small manual, a set of screws and a small weight. The screws and weight are there so you can increase the weight of the mouse itself. In a way that is more secure but certainly not as swift as other manufacturers.
The Ducky Secret has a nice clean arching design. It feels a lot like the Microsoft Intellipoint designs of old.
There are three lighting zones on the Ducky Secret, a small section on the left, a larger section on the right hand side and the inner edge of the scroll wheel.
The left hand side also features two additional buttons, which by default map to forward and reverse in browsers.
The main control button is underneath. Much like Ducky keyboards, all available settings are controlled by the hardware built in the mouse itself.
There are a number of options that can be changed. Including DPI, USB reporting rate, angle snapping, a surface material adjustment option and the all-important RGB lighting modes.
Each of these settings is noted by the colour of the LED’s underneath and the arrangement in which they are lit up.
Dismantling
So lets see where that weight goes….
Show mouse opened and where weight goes.
There is a bit of guesswork in terms of the steps needed to add the extra weight but if you unscrew the base it’s easy enough to find. There is a little slot which has two metal tabs secured by screws. If you unscrew these you can slide in the added weight. Normally there is one already installed but I had removed it at this point.
Of course adding the weight is a personal choice, and to be honest I found the Ducky Secret weighty enough as is.
