Plantronics RIG Headset Review
A Closer Look
A nice and simple box from Plantronics. It shows the style of the headset and the included mixer. The rear goes a bit more in-depth about what you can do with the RIG.
The Plantronics RIG headset comes with both a boom mic and an in-line microphone. which connect to the left ear cup.
The ear-cups have a soft padding with an orange inner. They both have nice vertical movement and each ear-cup can be turned to lie flat if needed.
The padding along the headband is a lot firmer, but is still comfortable.
The mixer is the key feature Plantronics have included. It allows for two sources of audio to be mixed as one such as a mobile phone and a games console. The central switch allows you to choose which device your mic audio goes to. The slide switches on the edge are sound balancers for each source and allow you to mix each side until you get your audio levels perfect.
Around the edge of the mixer is a global volume control which controls the overall volume. On the bottom edge of the mixer are three buttons. One changes between three preset EQ modes (Pure, Intense, Explosive). The second is for mobile controls such as call answer/end or play/pause if you are listening to music. The third button mutes the microphone itself.
The Plantronics RIG has also bee designed for use with consoles. With all the major consoles covered by using the above piggyback cable , on this version of the RIG headset there is also an optical in to allow connection to the PlayStation 4 as well, however they do not provide the cable to do so.
